[re]design hold innovative, engaging, accessible events for public, design trade and business audiences throughout the year. Our projects range from public exhibitions with tens of thousands of visitors, to inspiring in-house events tailor-made for partner organisations, to hands-on making workshops and lively debates.

[re]design is a relationship building organisation and there are lots of ways to get involved. To find out more, sign up to the [re]design newsletter (below right). If your organisation is interested in partnering with us, take a look at the partners page, or contact us and pop round for a cup of tea.

What we do

Sustainable design exhibitions – we put on exhibitions to promote designers who don’t want to make landfill, and at the same time to educate visitors about sustainability in an inclusive and accessible way. Some events are put together under our own steam, others for a client, and they can take place anywhere from a restaurant to a museum, from shipping containers on the high street to old industrial buildings.

Making workshops – [re]design believe creativity can empower people. We run making workshops for kids - big and small - using recycled, reused and sustainably sourced materials. [re]design workshops get people to see discarded materials in a new light while having a great time.

Lectures for learning – we’re passionate about making positive change in the world through design. We give talks at universities, organisations, design events and trade fairs about designing sustainably and sustainable designers.

Seminars and show-and-tells – our events get participants inspired and involved in discussions. They take place alongside our exhibitions, with clients and partner organisations, down the pub and anywhere in between!

Brilliant books – we like to put our projects into publications. Take a look in our online shop for more information.

Design that is:

* Friendly, human, characterful

* Optimistic, positive
* Inspirational, provocative, challenging
* Multi-sensory, inclusive, accessible

Aims

Our work supports and promotes design that’s responsible and friendly to people and the environment. We aim to:

* Inspire designers to make sustainability a core consideration, and an opportunity rather than a constraint.
* Entice and motivate consumers to make more sustainable choices, learning about the stories behind the products we invite into our homes and rethinking our domestic waste and energy use.
* Help manufacturers to discover new sustainable design and more sustainable materials, processes and systems.
* Show specifiers and purchasers that “good” choices can also be gorgeous.
* Enable retailers to seize the opportunities presented by the demand for sustainable products.
* Encourage government and the public sector to tap into the power of design to create positive environmental and social change.

We like to walk our talk – applying the same principles to our day-to-day routines and facilities as to our projects and events.

We are…

Not for profit – any money made on projects goes back into [re]design to further our work.

A social enterprise – an organisation that aims to make a positive social and environmental contribution to the world, and puts these aims first when making business decisions.

A friendly team – we value every member of the [re]design team and enjoy a hearty home-cooked lunch together every day. We like making friends with like-minded collaborators too.

Low carbon commuters – we walk, cycle, train and bus to work (and out to meetings whenever we can).

Energy savers – we get our electricity from renewable sources, choose energy-saving lighting both for the office and exhibitions, switch off what we’re not using, minimise printing, think jumpers are great inventions and enjoy our low-energy gadgets…

Water savers – we monitor and minimise annual water consumption, have a water butt for the garden and dual flush loos.

Avid recyclers – we recycle cardboard, paper, plastics, glass, metal, and love the wiggly worms in our compost heap.

Localisers – we know our neighbours and build relationships with local partners and suppliers. We even grow a few of our own veggies.

Green cleaners – we use vinegar, lemon juice, bicarbonate of soda, borax, eco cleaning products, and a dash of elbow grease!

Reclaimers – we know it’s a bit naughty but we love finding gems in skips. Our studio is full of reappropriated, revamped bits and bobs, with some newer good and gorgeous design mixed in. Our making workshops also use recycled, reused and sustainably sourced materials, and inspire people to make things the eco way at home.

Exhibition innovators – we develop materials-light and reusable exhibition designs: for example using shipping containers, scaffolding (with sheeting reclaimed to make shopping bags), or suspension rather than plinths.

Responsible publishers – our publications are printed on recycled stock by printers with rigorous environmental policies, and are designed to minimise wasted materials.
